Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946 to a low-income family, with twelve kids eventually included, discovered early that she was able to escape the hardships of her life by using a vivid imagination. Her songs were written before she could write or read. The guitar that she first received was presented by her mother when she was eighteen. The singer began her singing career at an Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. Gold Band Records is a tiny, independent label. Even though she was still at school, she already made a name of herself within the local arena. Her goal was to be able to play on a greater size. After graduating from the high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums on Monument Records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for a new girl singer for his television show that was syndicated. Parton got her first gig in 1967, signed with RCA Records by 1968, and was a part of the Grand Ole Opry. However, it wasn't until 1974 that she opted to walk away from Wagoner's show because the success of her individual records like Joshua Coat, Many Colors, and Jolene had outstripped their collaborative efforts. The song by Parton, I Will Never Love You (for Wagoner), was able to reach the No. #1 spot following their split. First time, in 1974.
